Currently the chief strategist at Wynnum & Districts Chamber of Commerce, Peter started his working life in the Navy, but in the 80s became CEO of the QUEENSLAND RETAIL INDUSTRY TRAINING COUNCIL, the industry's major training provider. Here, he consulted to industry on business matters and transformed a humble $50,000 grant into an annual turnover of $6.3 million in just six years.

Peter started his working life at  the age of 17as a weapons system submariner..

Life after the Navy, provided the freedom to release his potential.

After just 16 months as a Service Technician with XEROX  he was assigned to National Training in Sydney. Some 2 years later he was promoted to International Headquarters in London. A 4 year international assignment took him through a variety of disciplines, from Technical Service to Customer Service to Marketing, then Management Education and responsibility for HR & Training consultancy to XEROX Operating Companies, world-wide. On returning to Australia he was engaged as Management Resources Manager before being appointed National Training Manager.

In the mid 80’s, Peter took on another new challenge........establishing the QUEENSLAND RETAIL INDUSTRY TRAINING COUNCIL as the industry's major training provider. As Chief Executive, he consulted to industry on business matters and transformed a humble $50,000 grant into an annual turnover of $6.3 million in just six years. The QRITC received regular national press, TV and radio coverage about its innovations in motivational, customer service and sales training and then major involvement in World Expo ‘88. Peter was also the concept designer for Australia’s first Retail Skills Centre and an industry curriculum adviser to the Qld. Department of Education & Training. He was also appointed to the Small Business Development Corporation Advisory Council.

Headhunted by Franklins as National Human Resources Director, his responsibilities included Personnel, Training, Health & Safety, Security, Public Relations and Environmental Issues. He represented the retail industry on the NSW Occupational Health & Safety Council. Peter was also involved in marketing initiatives and developed a customer-focussed change process that coincided with the introduction of the new supermarket concept, BIG FRESH.

In 1996, Peter established his own consulting business (Q-Plus Enterprises) specialising in HR planning, training design, public relations and marketing. He was a founding member of the NRACC prior to the appointment of its Executive Officer and from 1999-2002 he was contracted by the Australian National Training Authority to conduct on-site evaluations of finalists in all States to select winners of the Prime Minister’s Awards for Training Excellence.

Peter found time to run a weekly column in two local newspapers as well as coordinate activities of the Murwillumbah District Business Chamber, where he was also President.

It was during this period that Peter’s passion for assisting small business operators and his aptitude for strategic planning began to flourish.

On returning to Brisbane to semi-retire, Peter soon discovered that was no option. He is currently working as chief strategist at Wynnum & Districts Chamber of Commerce.  This includes being principal mentor for Brisbane2Bayside Small Business Advisory Service, managing Enterprise Connect for which his Chamber is a Partner organisation and being very involved in a number of community projects and boards.
